What does Yerba Mate taste like?

Bitter, that's it. Yerba mate leaves have a distinctive bitter, strong and earthy flavor. It tastes like tea, but it hits you like coffee. If you're used to drinking tea or if you have a low sweetness threshold, you'll enjoy Yerba Mate right from the first sip. However, we know its taste might come off as too strong for those who are used to sweeter flavors, that's why we've come up with a few recipes to help you become used to Yerba Mate's unique taste.

Berry delicious (cold mate)

Enjoy our refreshing take on the South American classic Tereré

Ingredients

  • 1 Cap (or 4 tablespoons of loose-leaf yerba mate)

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric

  • A pinch of ground black pepper

  • 1 sliced strawberry

  • 1 tablespoon blueberries

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • ½ tablespoon of organic sugar or stevia

  • Cold water/ ice

Instructions

  1. Add the blueberries, the strawberry, the lemon juice and the cold water to the bottle body.

  2. Inside the filter, add the Cap or the loose-leaf yerba with the turmeric, the ground black pepper and the organic sugar or stevia

  3. Put the bottom lid back on and close it tightly. Make sure the straw is closed down and SHAKE your bottle three or four times.

Pro-tips:

🧐 If you don't have berries, you can replace them with your favorite citrus.

🧐 Turmeric and pepper go hand in hand, the piperine present in black pepper helps your body absorb more curcumin, a compound present in turmeric. Both combined are a perfect pair: strong antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory and anti-antibacterial properties.

Antioxidant potion (hot mate)

Ingredients

  • 1 Cap (or 4 tablespoons of loose-leaf yerba mate)

  • 1 tablespoon blueberries

  • 1 tablespoon loose-leaf green tea or ****½ tablespoon of matcha powder

  • A pinch of cinnamon

  • Warm/ hot water

Instructions

  1. Add the blueberries, and the warm/hot water to the bottle body.

  2. Inside the filter, add the Cap or the loose-leaf yerba with the green tea or matcha powder and the pinch of cinnamon.

  3. Put the bottom lid back on and close it tightly. Make sure the straw is closed down and SHAKE the bottle three or four times. Lift the straw to 45° first to let the steam come out, and lift it all the way up to enjoy your Mate. Mind the hot water!

Tereré: Cold Mate infused with herbs, fruits and cold water. It's typically drunk in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil in hot spring and summer days.
